Underarm BTX® instead of antiperspirant

Underarm BTX® instead of antiperspirant

Sweating is an important and completely normal bodily function, because our body regulates its temperature in a completely natural way through sweat production. Hyperhidrosis (or increased sweating) is when the body produces significantly more sweat in certain areas (e.g. armpits, hands, feet) beyond temperature regulation. This is, for example, an individual predisposition or a side effect of medication. Likewise, the increased sweating can be caused by one of many possible trigger factors (such as alcohol, stress, caffeine, ...) or be intensified by them.

Overactive sweat glands...

The autonomic nervous system that controls our sweat glands operates outside of our voluntary control. This loss of control is very uncomfortable for many people, even if they do not suffer from hyperhidrosis in the medical sense. Sweat patches under the armpits can be distressing and make it impossible to wear tight clothing or certain materials (silk, synthetic fibers).

Remedy for hyperhidrosis

Botulinum treatment (BTX®) of the armpits can temporarily block signal transmission from the nerve cells to the sweat glands, which drastically reduces or even completely stops sweating for a few months.

Frequently asked questions about hyperhidrosis treatment

How does the BTX® treatment of the armpits proceed?

Per armpit, 12 - 20 small deposits of botulinum are placed directly into the skin with a very fine needle, because that is where the sweat glands are located. The whole treatment takes less than 30 minutes.

Is hyperhidrosis treatment painful?

As a rule, the injection is hardly noticeable. A very slight burning sensation may be felt because the pH of the medication differs from that of the body tissue. In case of severe sensitivity, an anaesthetic cream can be applied shortly before the treatment.

What should I pay attention to before and after BTX® treatment of the armpits?

The day before the Botox treatment in my practice in Munich you should shave your armpits. Immediately after the treatment you should not use deodorant and do not shower or bathe until the next morning. It is best to avoid sports, excessive alcohol consumption and sunbathing for 24 hours after the treatment, because this stimulates the blood circulation. This could result in a weaker effect.

Hyperhidrosis Treatment Munich

How long does the effect of the hyperhidrosis treatment last?

The effect sets in after 7 - 14 days and lasts up to 6 months, sometimes even longer. As with all botulinum treatments, the actual duration of effect depends on individual factors. As the receptors in the nerve cells gradually regenerate, normal sweating slowly resumes at the end of the effective period. Then it is time to repeat the treatment.

Are there any side effects?

Not really. As with any injection, small bruises or inflammation are possible, but rare in this area. There are no negative effects on the sweating of the rest of the body. The ability to regulate temperature is maintained.

Does the health insurance cover the treatment costs?

All BTX® treatments in my practice in Munich are self-pay services.

In the case of a hyperhidrosis diagnosis, reimbursement by the health insurance is possible in some cases. This must be clarified with the health insurance company BEFORE starting treatment.
