When it comes to aesthetic treatments, most of us think of the face first. Yet the décolleté (along with the neck and hands) is one of the skin areas where signs of ageing such as wrinkles, thinning skin and sun damage can appear early. Especially for side sleepers, the skin on the décolleté often shows so-called "sleep wrinkles". After an aesthetic facial treatment, many patients are pleased with their refreshed and rested appearance. However, if there is a marked contrast between the skin quality of the face and décolleté, this can be strikingly unattractive. Especially at this time of year, patients often ask the question:
"What can be done about wrinkles on the décolleté?"
My favourite treatment for the biorevitalization of wrinkles and thinning skin on the neck and décolleté are injectable moisturizers. I use two different preparations in my practice in Munich, Profhilo® and Redensity 1. Both are thin-flowing hyaluronic acid preparations that are injected into the middle layer of the skin. They are distributed there and ensure a significant increase in deep hydration of the skin within a short time (like a "moisturizer from within"). In contrast to "filling" individual wrinkles with hyaluronic acid fillers, this is a large-scale improvement in skin quality with a firming effect. Another effect that has even been scientifically proven is the lasting bioremodeling that lasts for months after the treatment. Biorevitalization and bioremodelling means that the body's own production of hyaluronic acid, collagen and elastin is stimulated by the treatment.
Frequently asked questions about wrinkle treatment on the décolleté
How does the treatment with Injectable Moisturizers (Redensity 1, Profhilo®) work?
With Profhilo®, 2 mL of the product is injected in several depots. The injection points are placed specifically in the areas where the skin is thinnest and most wrinkled. Biorevitalizers such as Redensity 1 are either injected with a fine needle in a grid pattern.
Is the treatment of cleavage wrinkles painful?
Due to the local anesthetic applied before the treatment, the punctures are barely noticeable. With Profhilo®, a very slight burning sensation may be felt during the injection, whereas the injection of Redensity 1 is barely noticeable. On the other hand, the duration of treatment with Profhilo® is generally much shorter. The entire treatment, including the application time of the anaesthetic cream, takes around 20 - 30 minutes.
What do I have to pay attention to before and after the treatment?
Please do not take any blood-thinning painkillers (such as aspirin) for one week before the treatment. It is best to avoid sports, excessive alcohol consumption, bathing, sauna and sunbathing for 24 hours after the treatment. The treated area can be cooled a little. The injection sites should not be massaged until all redness and swelling has disappeared. I recommend avoiding cosmetic treatments in the treated area for a fortnight.
Are there any side effects of biorevitalization?
After a Profhilo® treatment in my practice in Munich, small "bumps" may appear at the injection points, which usually disappear within a few hours (or overnight). Profhilo® distributes itself in the middle layer of the skin. The swelling should have completely disappeared after two days at the latest. Due to the slightly different injection technique, this effect can be expected to a lesser extent with Redensity 1. However, the treated skin areas may be slightly reddened for 24 hours. Minor bruising is possible with all Injectable Moisturizer treatments.
How many treatments with Profhilo® or Redensity 1 are recommended?
I recommend two treatments four weeks apart for both Profhilo® and Redensity 1. Sometimes a third treatment may be necessary. The biorevitalizing effect of Injectables Moisturizers lasts for about 4 - 12 months. It makes sense to refresh the treatment at regular intervals in order to achieve a lasting improvement in skin quality. A combination with medical peels is possible for sun-damaged skin.
How much does treatment with Profhilo® or Redensity 1 cost?
The treatment costs are approximately €350 per treatment. This applies to one treated area at a time (décolleté, neck, face or hands). All biorevitalization treatments in my practice in Munich are considered aesthetic treatments and are therefore self-pay services.
