What is Dermamelan ®?

The Dermamelan ® treatment is a unique medical method to remove stubborn pigment spots and prevent their reformation. The treatment is suitable for hyperpigmentation such as melasma, sun spots and freckles.

Hyperpigmentation - how does it develop?

Hyperpigmentation can have genetic and hormonal causes and can be exacerbated by sun exposure. What they have in common is an overactivity of the enzyme tyrosinase in the melanocytes (melanin-producing cells in the skin). An accumulation of pigment in the skin can also occur after inflammations, the so-called post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Braking out pigments...

The special ingredients of the Dermamelan ® Depigmentation Treatment act as a chemical peel to remove excess melanin deposits from the skin. The skin appears more even and radiant. They also slow down the renewed production of melanin by inhibiting tyrosinase. The recurrence of spots is thus prevented in the long term.

For which pigment spots is Dermamelan ® suitable?

  • - Extensive hyperpigmentation such as melasma or freckles (ephelides)
  • - Hyperpigmentation spread over several areas of the face, such as age or sun spots (lentigines) or postinflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH).
  • - uneven skin colour

How does the treatment work?

The Dermamelan ® depigmentation treatment consists of two phases and lasts four months. The first phase takes place in the doctor's office. The second phase is the treatment at home.

Phase 1

During a consultation and examination, it will be determined whether the Dermamelan ® treatment is suitable for your pigmentation spots. Your doctor will explain to you exactly how the treatment works and what to look out for. The application of the two Dermamelan ® peeling masks is a painless and quick treatment. The treatment itself takes no longer than 20 minutes. Afterwards you go home with the masks on your face.

Phase 2

The second phase of the Dermamelan ® depigmentation treatment begins with the removal of the Dermamelan masks after four hours. After 48-72 hours, you begin a three-step skincare routine using the products included in the Home Pack. The more consistently you follow the instructions, the better and longer lasting the results will be.

FAQ - Questions about Dermamelan ® treatment with Dr. Eva Jablonka in Munich

Am I suitable for the Dermamelan ® treatment?

If you prefer a one-off session in the practice and have the motivation for the four-month home treatment, then the Dermamelan ® method is a treatment option for you. If you have hypersensitivity or allergic skin, I would not recommend it.

How many Dermamelan ® treatments do I need?

As a rule, a single treatment is sufficient for a significant improvement of the pigmentation spots. However, a repetition at a later time is possible.

What results can I expect with Dermamelan ®?

You can expect a significant lightening of the areas affected by melasma and hyperpigmentation. New pigmentation spots are prevented. The skin's appearance is generally clearer, more even and radiant. The first results can be seen as early as two weeks after the treatments. A lightening of the pigment spots becomes visible after four weeks.

What do I have to pay attention to on the day of treatment?

One week before a Dermamelan ® treatment in my practice in Munich you should stop all cosmetics with retinol or other peeling substances (AHA, BHA). On the day of treatment, it is best to avoid moisturiser or make-up altogether. Male patients should shave two days before treatment. Otherwise, please do not colour your eyebrows, eyelashes or hair and do not depilate your facial area in the two weeks before and after the treatment.

What are the risks and side effects of Dermamelan ® treatment?

Immediately after the treatment, the skin may be red and feel warm. After 24 - 48 hours, desquamation begins. Redness and scaling usually improve significantly after one week, but may also appear in a milder form in the further course of the treatment. Feelings of tension and sensitivity of the skin are possible, especially in the first two weeks after the treatment.

What do I have to pay attention to after a Dermamelan ® treatment?

You should consistently follow the instructions your doctor gives you on the day of treatment. In the two weeks following treatment, you should plan for your skin to be red and flaky. In the long term, consistent sun protection is important to prevent the spots from reappearing. Unfortunately, the skin in the affected areas will retain a permanent tendency to hyperpigmentation. This means: SPF 50+ daily and, on particularly sunny days, additional headgear.

How much does a Dermamelan ® treatment cost?

For a Dermamelan ® treatment in my practice, you can expect a total cost of around 850 €. This includes the consultation, the peel treatment in the practice and an initial supply of products for the home treatment. Follow-up appointments and personal support via email or WhatsApp are also included. I recommend a follow-up appointment after 48 hours (before starting Home Pack products), after 30 days and after 60 days. The control appointments can also be done via video consultation.
